How to Search for an Article
Enter as many details as possible. Leave empty fields for which you have no information.
Enter dates as follows: mm/dd/yyyy. For example, enter September 17, 1862 as 09/17/1862. You can search by day, by month, by year, or any combination of the three.
If uncertain about the correct spelling of a County or City/Town, enter the portion of the word for which you do have correct spelling. For example, enter “Gettys” if you are uncertain if the correct spelling is Gettysburg or Gettysberg.
Note that the Keyword Search will search for a word, not a phrase. The results will appear in order of the most relevant first.

Full DetailsCopperhead Ticket (October 21st, 1863)
>From The Frederick Examiner; Frederick, MD
Summary: The Examiner looks at the position of Charles Cole, editor of the Maryland Union, and wonders at the changing political stances he has taken. It assumes that he wishes to secure for himself some political office. The Examiner gives the names of the candidates for the Copperhead ticket and discusses the circumstances under which the Copperhead (or Conservative Union) Party chose the nominees. There were very few people in attendance at the convention and some of the candidates named to the ticket were not, apparently, consulted about their nominations. In other instances, the names of nominees are the same as nominees of the Unconditional Union Party. It is expected that a number of the nominees will withdraw their names and that those people already on the Unconditional ticket will disassociate themselves from the Copperhead ticket.
