Summary

Anecdote including personal letters of Samuel F. Willard, a captain of the 14th Connecticut Reg. at the Battles of South Mountain and Antietam, shortly before his death, casting him as an exemplary Christian and patriot . He describes onset of battle of South Mountain from Middletown Valley, the Rebel wounded on the field after the engagement, McClellan and Burnside being cheered by troops, Rebel wounded and prisoners being glad to stop fighting.
