They Took the Regular Oath

Summary

Thomas E. Pope, Adolphus Fearhake, Jr., Mordaunt C. Winchester, and Jas. McSherry, Jr., of Frederick, recently had been sent to Baltimore for refusing to take the oath of allegiance from Provost Marshal Faithful of Frederick. They were examined by Major Gen. Wool and released after taking "the regular Oath of Allegiance" to the Federal Government. Others had also been arrested at the same time: J. D. Baxley of Ridgeville for recruiting for the Rebel army, and N. B. Pryor of Ridgeville and Richard C. Wagner of Liberty District, for aiding soldiers to desert. [from Frederick Examiner]
