A Guerilla Band Broken Up
Summary
Seven or eight prisoners brought into city on Wednesday evening and put in the Athenaeum. They were captured near Warrenton, Hardy County. Capt. Umbaugh, who had a commission from Gov. Letcher to raise a guerilla company, collected 20 or 30 men near Warrenton. A detachment from the Maryland Home Brigade was sent to find the party. Umbaugh and two of his party were killed, others wounded. The rest, other than the 7 in the Athenaeum, escaped.
