Summary

Account of recent action near Winchester where Union forces under Crook, Averill, Mulligan and Kelly had to fall back to Martinsburg and Harpers Ferry and Hagerstown, while Rebel "incendiaries and pillagers" went into Pennsylvania, burning Chambersburg. An action at Sharpsburg resulted in a Rebel defeat.
