3rd Mass Vols at Sharpsburg have killed "Old Burke" and captured several Rebel guerillas near Shepherdstown, including Burke's sons, Andrew Laypole, Daniel Rentch, William Stonebraker (of Washington Co), James Pearre, and Stephen Hagan (of Frederick Co).

REBEL PRISONERS – On Tuesday of last week, a squad of the 3d Mass. Vols., at Sharpsburg, learning the whereabouts of some Rebel guerillas near Shepherdstown, crossed the Potomac and surprised and captured them. Old Burke, the murderer of Cookas[?], was killed; the notorious outlaw, Andrew Laypole, Burke’s two sons, & three other Virginians, Daniel Reatch & William Stonebraker, of Washington county, Md., and James Pearce and Stephen Hagan of this county, captured. The prisoners were brought here on Thursday last and confined at the Guardhouse until the next morning, then they were sent to Fort McHenry.
