The Present Moment
Summary
The Examiner calls for all who wish to see the Union preserved and secession defeated to stand by the present administration.
Transcript
The present movement is an auspicious one for the Union of all men who, in sincerity and in truth, desire the suppression of the rebellion and the restoration of peace on a stable and enduring basis. If we with to perpetuate the Republic and transmit its glorious traditions unsullied and unimpaired to the remotest ages of posterity, we must betake ourselves afresh to duty; we must be up and doing. This is no time for indecision or lukewarmness; for individual jealousies or factious opposition to the Administration in its arduous struggle to save the nation’s life. Peace, tranquility and the final redemption of the States in rebellion, can only be secured, and the prosperity of the people only maintained, by a bold and fearless support of those in authority. Our prospects of success in a measure, lie in adherence to this rule, and if we would preclude the utter annihilation of our nationality, we must organize and stand in readiness to sustain the Government against all its enemies wherever found, whether in the field or in the private walks of society.
