Transcript
On Wednesday last, Mr. John B. Stimmel, of this city, was arrested by the Military Authorities on the charge of purchasing stolen Government horses, and taken to Martinsburg for a hearing, but the evidence elicited during the trial, not being of a character to sustain the charges against him, he was acquitted and permitted to return home. The following are the remarks accompanying the order releasing Mr. Stimmel, signed by G. S. Hill, Captain and Acting Asst. Provost Marshal General, dated Martinsburg, Va. June 26: “I take special pleasure in stating that Mr. John Stimmel, of Frederick, Md., is in no way censurable[?] or guilty of conduct unbecoming a gentleman in a recent Horse transaction in this place, nor should his character or standing be the least impaired.
