Arrest of Dr. Beckenbaugh

Dr. James Beckenbaugh, of Carroll Co., was arrested and charged with aiding federal soldiers to desert. Provost Marshal Yellon held a hearing in Frederick, Francis Pearson acting as his counsel.

Transcript

ARREST OF DR. BECKENBAUGH – Last Week, Dr. James Beckenbaugh, formerly of this city, but now a resident of Carroll county, was arrested and brought here for trial on the charge of aiding Federal soldiers to desert, and several other charges of minor importance. He had a hearing before Maj. Yellon, Provost Marshal, Isaac Pearson, Esq., appearing as his counsel. The evidence in support of the speculations against him not being of a character to justify his detention, he was released on his parole of honor until next Thursday, when the trial will be resumed.
