For the Examiner

Summary

"Fuss and Feathers" pokes fun at Gen. Kimmel and the editor of the Citizen, aka the "General of the Auger," formerly Gov. Lowe's Flour Inspector General.

Transcript

“General of the Auger” was the soubriquet with which Major General Kimmel, in his Senatorial Canvass, branded the Editor of the Citizen, who was Gov. Lowe’s Flour Inspector General. These distinguished Generals waged a pitiless warfare against each other until the Major General lost his commission, when he also laid down the weapon of ridicule. But the “General of the Auger” retains his title, of which no envious Governor can deprive him; and it is now proposed, in order to renew the fun since they have become friends, to dub his new ally with the brevet of “Lieutenant General of the Auger-hole” – through which he is trying to squeeze himself into office notoriety. It’s rather a good joke.
