Excitement
Summary
Frederick was "thrown into a state of excitement" by an exaggerated report that Moseby's guerillas had crossed the Potomac and were making their way towards the city. It turned out that about 150 of Moseby's men had crossed the river near the mouth of the Monocacy and advanced as far as Adamstown. They robbed the store of Mr. A. Kohlenburg, burned several canal boats and stole the horses belonging to the boatmen. However, a detachment of Union cavalry chased them back across the river with the loss of one man.
