Union Convention

Summary

Report from the Union Congressional Convention for the 4th District of Maryland. The meeting was held in Hagerstown to select a candidate for Congress. Col. Thomas Hammond was elected permanent president of the Convention. List of the names of men from Carroll, Frederick, Washington and Allegany counties who are delegates to the convention. The delegates will choose a candidate for Congress and the convention resolved that this individual must be a firm supporter of the Union. Other business of the convention was spelled out. Hon. Francis Thomas was chosen as the nominee for Congress and a group was appointed to inform him of that fact. The proceedings of the convention were to be published in all the Union papers in the counties.
