Popular Sentiment
Summary
During the Union Convention in Frederick City, the popular sentiment was that of loyalty and people favored the proposed State Emancipation policy. People also showed unconditional support for the administration in all its acts and efforts to suppress the rebellion. Insults, threats, etc. published in the Maryland Union, a Frederick "Copperhead" paper, had the effect of arousing the citizens to their danger.
