The Draft

Summary

Lists the draft numbers for the Fourth Congressional District which includes Carroll, Frederick, Allegany and Washington Counties. The draft will likely take place in Frederick around January 5, 1864. Reasons for exemption from the draft are listed: 1) Alienage, 2) Non-residence, 3) Unsuitableness of age, 4) Manifest Permanent Disability. An exemption can also be made if aged and infirm parents have two or more sons subject to military duty. The total of the draft for the district is approximately 3,600.
