The Result in our County

Summary

Newspaper comments on the results of the election in Washington Co. Since the candidates put forth by the Union Party ran unopposed, the turnout of voters was about 700 short of a previous vote. The candidates were considered "of high character for moral and political integrity" and were definitely Union supporters; however, at certain polling places they were badly treated. When voters are dissatisfied with the nominees of the party, they should "work to bring about a better result next time." In general, it was believed better to support the entire ticket than to become involved in "prejudices and dislikes" of individual candidates.
