Union County Convention
Summary
A report of the proceedings of the Union County Convention held at the Court House in Hagerstown on October 3rd. The officers in charge of the meeting are named; the resolutions which were adopted are given and the nominees for the various offices are listed. Two of the resolutions are of particular interest. 1) "Resolved, that the soil, climate, material wealth and resources of the state of Maryland demand the speedy substitution of free white for slave labor." 2) Resolved, that we are in favor of emancipation and the extinction of slavery in our state."
