Anniversaries of Battles

Summary

Reminder that the Battle of South Mountain took place one year before on September 14th and the Battle of Antietam took place on September 17th. Although at present these anniversaries cannot be properly observed, in the future they will be. Much has changed in a year since the everything was laid waste, crops destroyed and death everywhere. Now the crops are growing again and fences repaired, but "the long rows of graves 'where sleep the brave,' each with its little pine board" are reminders of what took place. "The graves...are the sad monuments of the destruction of human life in those terrible battles."
