Removal of Boyd

Summary

Maj. Gen. Schenck, commander of the 8th Army and in charge of the Middle Department, issued an order to send the editor and publisher of "The Maryland Free Press," Andrew G. Boyd, south of the Potomac into Rebel territory. The writing in his newspaper was "designed to encourage and foster insurrection..." and the publication will be suppressed. If Boyd returns during the continuance of the rebellion, he will be dealt with as a spy. The Provost Marshal of the 8th Army is to carry out this order.
