Distressing Case
Summary
The widow of a Wisconsin soldier recently killed at Martinsburg while on picket duty was harassed by a local woman of Confederate sympathy while on her way back to Wisconsin after burying her husband. No names are given. The Wisconsin woman received considerable help from Union people locally. She had accompanied her husband East because he was ill at the time he joined the service. He had recovered before he was killed, but she had not returned home.
