The Rebel Invasion

Summary

During the last month the Confederates pushed Gen. Milroy out of Winchester and Gen. Tyler out of Martinsburg, both retreating to Harpers Ferry. The Confederates crossed the Potomac and moved through Washington County and into Pennsylvania, taking vast amounts of goods and livestock from the citizens. At York, PA, the Confederates levied a ransom of cash and goods upon the town.
