Another Alarm
Summary
Last Friday residents of Jefferson arrived with their horses, reporting that Mosby’s men had crossed the Potomac. Middletown’s farmers then took their horses farther north. When Union horsemen appeared at the edge of town, they were mistaken for the Confederates and shops were hurriedly closed, but the southern raiders approached no closer than Adamstown.
