Terrible Accident
Summary
The Frederick Examiner reports that Wm. H. Thomas of near Buckeystown was overseeing some work in his blacksmith shop when a spark ignited a shell that had been retrieved from Antietam Battlefield. The shell exploded and a fragment cut Thomas’s throat, which caused his death two days later.
