The Rebel Army…

Summary

The Confederates invaded Maryland again last week, crossing the river at Hancock and Shepherdstown. Hagerstown was occupied for one day before the Confederates retreated across the river. After burning Chambersburg, PA, Confederate generals McCausland and Johnson threatened Cumberland. Union Gen. Averill defeated the Confederates at Moorefield. Union Maj. Gen. Sheridan has been assigned to temporary command of the Middle Military Division.
