J. H. Finney reports overhearing rebel officers complain of their reception in Frederick by the Tories, of being misled by them on local secessionist sentiment. A number of prominent Frederick men are implicated, especially Fred Markell and John Need. Howell Cobb's drunkenness is recalled, also Pres. Lincoln's visit to Frederick.
