Union Man Shot By The Rebels

Summary

Mortimer Cookus, a Virginian who was taking refuge in Washington County, was killed by Rebel guerillas while attempting to escort a man named Dunn and his family across the Potomac to the Maryland side. Cookus drowned near Dam No. 4.
