A Fatal Accident

Summary

The sixteen or seventeen-year-old son of Rev. Mr. Shuford, pastor of the German Reformed Church of Sharpsburg, was killed while handling an unexploded shell left from the Battle of Antietam. Drs. Smith and Biggs, of Boonsboro and Sharpsburg respectively, had amputated his mangled leg but he succumbed to his injuries. The article warns people of the dangers of the many shells which were collected as relics and may fall into the hands of innocent children, etc.
